Every year, 2nd years are split into random teams of 6, and given a new spec. The project for our year was to make a (relatively) simple airport model - taking a rate of inbound planes, outbound planes, and some number of runways (being either inbound-only, outbound-only, or mixed-use), and model the lateness of planes, among other things.
My group opted to use Typescript+React for the frontend, and a Flask webserver to handle core logic. It ended with me doing a little bit more than my fair share of the work, but now its all submitted and I never have to think about it again, so at least theres that.
